Telstra Corporation, an Australian telecommunication company, has launched what it claims to be the world’s fastest 3G hotspot modem -Telstra Ultimate Mobile Wi-Fi. The device works on a battery and is capable of providing speeds of up to 20Mbps to Wi-Fi enabled devices in its specified coverage areas.

Since the number of Wi-Fi enabled handheld devices like smartphones, tablets and notebooks are rising in popularity, enhanced Wi-Fi hotspots have become a necessity. Hence, more innovation in the development of high-speed Wi-Fi hotspots is underway. Of course, Telstra’s battery-powered Ultimate Mobile Wi-Fi may certainly be a part of such a development.
Besides CBDs and airports, Telstra Ultimate Mobile Wi-Fi modem will provide its maximum speed in a number of metro hubs and 100 selected regional centers in Australia. Unlike most of Wi-Fi hotspots, Telstra Ultimate Mobile Wi-Fi works on dual channel HSPA+ technology. It means that the device will provide more stable and constant connectivity.
It was noted in PC Authority’s tests that Elite Mobile Wi-Fi, a 3G-based Wi-Fi modem from Telstra, dropped speeds depending on the coverage in an area. The device has been providing an average speed of 7.9 Mbps in the Sydney CBD. Now, let us hope the new HSPA+ Wi-Fi modem from Telstra will show better performance than its 3G predecessor.
Telstra Ultimate Mobile Wi-Fi will be immediately made available for the company’s business consumers. BigPond customers will reportedly get the device for purchase from 19 July, 2011 onwards. Warwick Bray, Executive Director of Telstra Mobile Products said, "Australians are now taking a growing range of Wi-Fi enabled devices with them when they’re outside the home and office. However, managing separate mobile broadband accounts for each gadget can be a hassle. Equipped with an Ultimate Mobile Wi-Fi device, businesses can connect teams or multiple Wi-Fi enabled devices wherever there is Next G network coverage."
