Technological Triumph: Microsoft and Nokia will develop next-generation smartphones

The smartphone battle game may change now, Microsoft and Nokia has announced that they would chart out plans for developing new global mobile ecosystem. This means that Nokia's upcoming smartphone will be running on Windows technology equipped with high performing specs. Stephen Elop, Nokia President and CEO said “Today, developers, operators and consumers want compelling mobile products, which include not only the device, but the software, services, applications and customer support that make a great experience, Nokia and Microsoft will combine our strengths to deliver an ecosystem with unrivalled global reach and scale.” The object of this conglomeration is to deliver its current market base with more options and astounding mobile alternatives. Both the companies will together work as a unit for deploying new applications and services in their upcoming versions. Aiming for the spectacular, Steven A. Ballmer, Microsoft CEO said that “I am excited about this partnership with Nokia. Ecosystems thrive when fueled by speed, innovation and scale. The partnership announced today provides incredible scale, vast expertise in hardware and software innovation and a proven ability to execute.”

The core essentials of this corporate fusion will be: developing plans for the new global mobile ecosystem – Windows powered Nokia smartphone; developing a positive perspective for increasing business volumes; evolving next generation disruptive technologies; forming responsible leadership teams and corporate structures for generating qualitative and quantitative output.

In the press release it was further declared that the the Group Executive Board of Nokia would be replaced with a New Leadership Team and organizational structure. The honorable members of this team are: Esko Aho (Head of Corporate Relations & Responsibility); Juha Akras (Head of Human Resource Division); Rich Green (Head of the CTO Office); Jo Harlow (Head for Smart Devices); Timo Ihamuotila (Chairing the CFO Office); Mary McDowell (Head of Mobile Division); Kai Oistamo (Head of Corporate Development); Tero Ojanpera (Head of Services and Developer Experience); Louise Pentland (Legal and Intellectual Property); Larry Kaplan (Head of NAVTEQ); Niklas Savander (Head of Market); Marko Ahtisaari (Head of the Design Team).

As per the plan there will be a separate division of Smart Devices which will be headed by Jo Harlow. The Smart Devices division will shoulder the responsibility to deliver mobile solutions in the smartphones and will be further divided into 3 subdivisions: Symbian Smartphones, MeeGo Computers and Strategic Business Operations. Mobile Phones division will manage the "web for the next billion strategy" headed by Mary McDowell. The mobile division will take care of growth markets and would be responsible for delivering affordable internet access and connection to the next billion people.

With this move, We can hope for astounding Nokia-Windows smartphones on a very large scale. In one of the interviews, Steven Ballmer, said that “Nokia's Content store would be further integrated with Microsoft's Marketplace. ”He further added that Xbox Live and Office will became a part of the Microkia handsets. We will have to see, that what consequences this collective partnership would have on the smartphone market.
