‘Tata’ has managed to fetch laurels for the Indian subcontinent by fabricating the world’s fourth fastest supercomputer christened the ‘Eka’! This development has given India a strong position in global top ten super computers list.
Developed by its subsidiary, Computation Research Laboratories (CRL), the ‘Eka’ incorporates 2.5 megawatt of power, and can you beat this - the amount of air conditioning it needs is sufficient to cool a medium sized hotel i.e. 350-400 tones!
Those 35 kilometers of cabling inside it, I suppose, are enough to confirm this fact too. Eka can store up to 30,000 full-length movies or 28 terabytes of data and can relocate the full content of a 40 GB iPod in just a second!
At $30 million, it stands out to be a supremo, phew! It has the capability of allocating data at those blazing 120 trillion FLOPS (floating-point operation per second). The Indian government may find its use in the fields of weather prediction, oil, and natural gas exploration, automotive, drug discovery, nanotechnology, computer gaming, and animation.
Mr. S. Ramadorai, chairman CRL, opined –
Over the next six to nine months, we will have a library of applications that can run on Eka.
This is one of the key factors that may judge India to be the next global “Super Power”!
