Talking Thermometer voice-communicates readings to visually impaired
Makers: Dhananjay Gadre and Divya Sardana
Product Description: For the visually impaired, voice is essential for information intake. The Talking Thermometer uses "stored voice samples of numbers and words" to communicate temperature readings to the user. A Keil MCB2130 evaluation board powers the device and an on-board LPC2138 is used for the storage of samples. The audio is enabled by the board’s audio amplifier, speaker and external RC filter.

What’s innovative: The Talking Thermometer is unique because regular speech playback systems are missing. The readings are voice-communicated with the help of stored samples – a mechanism that significantly reduces the size of the final device.
Watch This: We believe any practical device designed for the impaired is praiseworthy. And the Talking Thermometer, with its minimalist application of technology, is a gift for the visually impaired.
