9769_13080865306_SUCHq_3342It is quite common for adventurers to lose their way while on an expedition. However, 9 out of 10 invariably find their way home thanks to their ‘wristop computers’ a.k.a GPS-enabled watches. Global Positioning System is among the most heralded inventions and the most fascinating aspect of this technology is its ability to fit into gadgets of any size (hopefully nano too in future!). And, Suunto is one manufacturer that knows just too well how utilitarian GPS can be if incorporated into watches. As a successor to its popular X9i GPS watch, the company has announced the release of X10. The vastly improved model will feature 33% better battery life, enhanced performance and most importantly, improved tracking abilities to help you find your way through dense foliage with ease. To add to its appeal, the watch is small, lightweight and offers hands-free operation.

The Suunto X10 also helps you record routes for future reference and analysis. It can work in tandem with NGC Topo as well as Google Earth. Additionally, it incorporates Suunto’s proprietary Exporter PC software for route planning and programming. Before your trip, you can print customized maps and also transfer track info to Google Earth for the purpose of satellite imagery. It also incorporates an altimeter, barometer, digital compass, and thermometer. The X10 will hit the stands in September and the package will include a USB Charger. If Alps beckons, make sure you check this one out!
