Super Sails for smooth sailing without fuel

It's always around us, touching and hissing and declaring its presence and immense power. Apparently, we've came a long way, understanding, harnessing and incorporating this pervasive power of the wind with technology for smooth sailing.

Popular Science is presenting an interesting feature "Welcome to the New Age of Sail", covering three innovative designs aimed at reducing the amount of fuel used by ships by up to 35 per cent. The SkySail, pictured above, is a gigantic kite that pulls the ship using wind power. We've been using kites or parachutes, to be more precise, but that too is based on the mechanism of a simple kite, to bring space shuttles to a stand still, but here it's doing just the opposite.
