Subvocal Speech: Future communication for physically challenged and defense

Posted By: Naresh KumarChauhan | Oct 15 2006

NASA's (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) Human Senses program under the supervision of Dr. Charles Jorgensen, for the last seven years, is working on the subvocal speech program that will allow you to speak without any verbal communication and would certainly be a blessing for people with problematic vocal cords, security and military personnel as well.

Similar to silent reading, the subvocal speech is evaluated sub-auditory communication where microscopic sensors are placed on neck to record nerve signals in the throat and sent, before being sent to a computer, to the central processing unit for consideration and appropriate transformation into language.

Research on Subvocal speech is still on at the NASA Ames Research Center in Silicon Valley and no wonder, in future, if you find it as a language for physically challenged and security codes for defense forces.
