How wonderfully delighting is an invention targeted toward the less fortunate. There are numerous kinds of optical lenses and glasses we’ve seen thus far, pertaining to the design and peculiarity. But the “adaptive glasses” developed by Professor Joshua Silver stand on new heights. Retired from the University of Physics, professor Silver has designed a pair of glasses that can be adjusted by the wearer to suit him without the need of an optician.

Designed for the developing countries, the adaptable glasses – suitable for both shortsightedness and farsightedness — could be a rage with the masses in countries that have a dearth of both medical representatives (opticians) and finances. Made in tough plastic, the adaptive glasses have a syringe attached to them, which is used to tune the lens to suit the wearer’s eye, on injecting a fluid to make the glass thicker and no prescription’s required to do so. Thousands of pairs of adaptive glasses have already been distributed in some countries, and an Indian launch is in the hood – considering all these are spectacles for the retro-moderns, they wouldn’t look beyond.
