Students build car that goes 1,500 miles on a gallon of gas

In the given scenario fuel efficiency is a must for a car to deliver to the buyer expectation. While all manufacturers are racing to meet the highest levels of economy, automobile engineers have thrived in the endeavor, and competitions like the SAE Supermileage are reminiscent of the fact. 10 students from University of Ottawa had their own car to compete at the competition this time, bagging the second place after Université Laval. Their fuel efficient car managed 1,500 miles (2,414 kilometres) per gallon (3.79 litres) of regular unleaded gasoline.

The team of students believes their car could deliver even better, stating that they “didn’t have time to tune the engine prior to the competition,” plus they reported that the car had a major fuel leak, else the car could have gone on to 3,000 miles on a single gallon of gas.

The car from the students that’s slightly smaller than three meters has an engine the size of a light-duty chainsaw, weighs 54kgs and has a top speed of about 50 Km/ph. The U of O students are expected to bring their car to Capital City Speedway, where they’ll try and break the world record for fuel efficiency by going past 3,200 miles on a gallon of gas.
