Students build 8-foot-tall fire-breathing dragon for Maker Faire

Fire-breathing robots are always a fun to watch, especially when they are scary – I am not telling you that all fire-breathing robots aren’t scary, please don’t take my words literally. Two San-Francisco based students have developed their version of an animatronic fire-breathing dragon for the Maker Faire festival, and without my telling, consider this scary. If you plan to invade its territory – just do it at your own risk. Dubbed the Saphira, this steel and aluminum bodied robot stands 8 feet from the ground and has a flight simulator joystick hooked up to a laptop to control its movements. If that structure wasn’t enough to scare the shit out of the next-door neighbor, the duo has stuck a propane tank up the dragon’s gut to help it spit fire for the DIYers cause.
