Strip down the features of a normal (un-green) computer, stack it up on cloud computing and reduce its size. Lo and behold we have a CherryPal PC! Cheap, small and green are apparently the adjectives that characterize the new offering of CherryPal. CherryPal PC provides the most basic features of a PC and wraps it all in a package that fits a small bag quite easily. This modification means that the computing power, memory and storage are kept to the minimal level possible. Thus, the CherryPal PC comes with following hardware specs:

• Freescale’s MPC5121e mobileGT processor (400 MHz)
• 256GB of DDR2 DRAM
• 4GB NAND Flash-based solid state drive
• WiFi 802.11b/g Wi-Fi
• Two USB 2.0 ports
• One 10/100 Ethernet with RJ-45 jack
• One VGA DB-15 display out jack
• Headphone level stereo audio out 3.5mm jack
• 9vDC 2.5mm 10 watt AC-DC adapter power supply
• 10.5 ounces
• 1.3″ high, 5.8″ x 4.2″ wide

Clearly this PC does away with any movable part and has components that consume very less power; as low as 2 Watt. The downside is that one has to resort to various online applications and the storage too has to be web based. The OS on this machine is some version of Debian Linux.

The pricing details of this one are kept secret but would be competitive if company’s CEO Max Seybold is to be believed. There have been other endeavors to make cheaper and smaller PCs. Would CherryPal PC succeed where all else have filed? We’ll all know soon enough. There’s little doubting however the green and cheap credentials of CherryPal PC.
