Stingray: an unmanned undersea inspection ROV
Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV) have opened up unlimited opportunities for exploration and research in hostile, inaccessible (for humans) territory. A lot of development has been happening in the area of undersea ROVs, primarily because it cuts down risks to a significant extent. Stingray is an inspection-class ROV that apparently would redefine the ruggedness and reliability of these machines. Weighing just 31.75kgs (in-air weight), it is easily deployable by a single person. Stingray can be outfitted with a wide array of inspection equipment, such as video/film cameras, NDT devices, navigation equipment, sensors and other optional devices. Clearly, the USP of this system lies in unmatched scalability at lower costs. Stingray comes with three optional connectors and one camera connector. The chassis is built with a single piece of stainless steel, making it highly rugged and depth-friendly. It can be used in search and rescue operations, reef monitoring, salvaging, dam and tunnel inspections, and other underwater activities.
