Space Mirrors to replace Space Lasers

US military is experimenting on the air and space borne lasers under its Airborne Laser project. It's a
'modified 747 "YAL-1A" aircraft designed around a chemical laser that can intercept ballistic missiles, airplanes or just about anything else in the atmosphere.'The project is moving with a snail's pace, far behind the target of building 7 of the aircraft by 2008.

Now, the US military has come out with a new plan under which a space mirror set-up will relay for ground based lasers. The plan referred to as Tactical Relay Mirror System (TRMS), cropped up last year but took a back seat due to the ABL project. The system is very effective in increasing the range of the laser.
