SoundBite hearing aid transmits sound from tooth to ear

Cochlear implants have increased in popularity and have improved in quality and technique over time. A prominent process of such implants is hearing aid devices utilizing bone conduction. There are many such bone conduction aids readily available, but they are required to be drilled into the jawbone, in order to avert that, Sonitus Medical have developed SoundBite, which according to them, is the first non-surgical, non-invasive, easily removable device made to assist the single sided deafness. SoundBite that sticks into the tooth and is practically invisible when worn uses natural conduction of teeth and bone to transmit sound to the inner ear. “SoundBite detects noise using a microphone placed in the ear connected to a transmitter in a behind-the-ear (BTE) device. The BTE transmits to an in-the-mouth (ITM) device that sends small sound waves through the jaw to the cochlea.” Though the device is far from real now, the developers believe they will have it ready for FDA approval soon.
