It is quite an arduous task to tell one PC from the other these days. Features are repeated, while the appearance is tweaked just a bit. For manufacturers, the best way out is to include a key differentiator, which would put to rest all “Siamese twin” claims. For Sotec’s E7 media center PC series, an iPod dock does the trick. A flip-open compartment at the base of this PC houses a slot where you can plug in the mp3 player. In addition to this, the 21.6 inch PC features a DVD drive, built-in card reader, 1.3MP camera, wireless keyboard and mouse, 8W Onkyo speakers, NVIDIA GeForce 9300 video card, integrated 802.11a/b/g Wi-Fi module, Gigabit Ethernet, 1GB of RAM and a160GB hard drive as part of the standard option. It runs on an Intel dual-core 2GHz and optional enhancements include 2GB RAM, 500GB hard drive, and a 2.53GHz processor.

Pricing and Availability: An October launch has been predicted for the E7 range of media center PCs. The standard version will cost around $950, while the fully-loaded option will set you back by $1560.

Watch This: Consumers aren’t satisfied with the ‘regular’ anymore. However, despite the addition of an iPod dock that, we believe, promotes redundancy, Sotec’s E7 fails to leave a lasting impression. There are better alternatives, certainly.

Word around the Web:

Ubergizmo says:

“I would assume the iPod dock doubles up as a charger, making the E7 a pretty nifty system to own.”

Chris Davies from Slashgear says:

“It might not be an iMac, but it does have a built-in iPod dock.”
