Sony to launch free iPhone and Android apps for PlayStation

Catching on the hype of the iPhone and Android apps, Sony has iterated that it would soon be launching its free iPhone and Android apps for PlayStation in the first quarter of 2011. To be released in the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy and The Netherlands to begin with, no I didn’t forget US strangely it’s not on the list at this point in time, the version 1.0 will be up for users to track their PlayStation Network trophies besides their friends’ games and their online statuses. Further the apps will deliver to the users all gaming news and PlayStation announcements and also let users share these over Twitter, Facebook and email. If you’re missing something here, well it’s the ability to play games, and that wouldn’t be possible with the version 1.0, so no point waiting.

Sony has a little catch in the announcement. To use the app the iPhone users will be required to use devices running iOS 4 while the Android users will need a device running Android 1.6 or higher.
