Apparently, Sony is trying to keep the Walkman brand alive, while the Sony Walkman is biting dust everywhere, by breathing new life in the Sony Walkman phone. Following the track Sony Ericsson has just launched its new series of Walkman-brand cell phones for Japan.



The W42S Walkman phone, 11th in the series, featuring 1GB of internal memory pumped up with a Memory Stick Duo card, promises a cool 30 hours of music playback. It will go on sale in late June on KDDI’s au CDMA2000 network. Though the price of the phone is not confirmed yet, according to rumors it will be tagged for around ¥20,000 ($181).



Other GSM handsets, that will be launched later this year, include Sony Ericsson W710 and W850, of which the quad-band W710 is a clamshell model just for Europe, Asia and North America. The handsets support MP3, AAC, AAC+ and eAAC+ formats and will be launched packed with FM radio with RDS, a Track ID application and motion sensor. The tri-band W850 is a slider phone for Europe, the Middle East and Africa and features a 2-megapixel camera and a 1GB Memory Stick Duo.
