Sony PS3 motion controller to provide 'true 3D' experience

Previously debuted at E3 in LA, Sony just displayed the prototype of the PS3 motion controller at the Develop 2009 conference in Brighton. Motion filming of this controller was prohibited, but photo shoots were allowed. Gadget freaks and media jocks made the most of the opportunity.

The PS3 motion controller has two parts, referred to as wands. The player holds these wands, which have a purple or red light on the top, in his hands simultaneously and their movement in any axis is fully 3D-translated by the motion sensor camera embedded in the console. This motion sensor camera can detect different motion sensor items, like guns, which are displayed with the player holding them on-screen.

This prototype is limited, so it is available to developers at studios, who have to make a case to get them. Sony has hinted that these techniques will soon be seen in PS3 and PSP titles from both Sony Computer Entertainment and external developers.
