Personal media players are seeing more touchscreen based designs and most of the PMP’s are slowly doing away with buttons altogether. Breaking away from this trend is a design from a design student who prefers to be known as Eband00. Eband00 calls this PMP design, the SONY PiMP as his design is based on Sony’s portable game console, the PSP. The PiMP has a 3 inch touch-sensitive screen, which also has a navigation ball on it’s right hand side to navigate through the PiMP, especially for users who don’t prefer the touchscreen. Gaming is definitely in as the PiMP is based on the PSP. For a comfortable gaming experience you have 4 keys accessible even from the right side of the console. Memory is handled by a massive 100gb hard-drive but we would have definitely preferred flash memory for the PiMP. The PiMP’s overall design is very pleasing to the eye with a mix of curves and straight lines eliminating those jarring edges completely. The PiMP also gets tablet functionality with the built-in web browser and comes with the Sony operating system. Very impressive, we must say, especially because all this is the work of a student designer.
