
Electronics giant Sony recently introduced its second-generation Blu-ray player, BDP-S300, at an Open House event in Las Vegas. The new player which is priced at $600 will be available in the markets this summer.
BDP-S300 is the newest entrant to join Sony’s family of HD 1080 line of products comprising of BDP-S1 BD player, BRAVIA™ LCD televisions, Grand WEGA® SXRD® rear-projection sets, PlayStation® 3 game console, Blu-ray Disc-enabled VAIO computers, PC drives and recordable BD media.
The new player is much slimmer compared to the current model, with an improved button design on the front panel. Apart from its cheaper price and a new look, the player comes with many advanced features which makes it different from the current model, BDP-S1.
The following features are enough to make it a runaway success:
– 1920 x 1080pixels (progressive) high-definition video, available through an HDMI™ connection.
– support for various video formats including MPEG2, MPEG4-AVC and VC1.
– compatible with most standard DVDs, with added feature of 1080p upscaling through HDMI to 1080p capable HDTVs, thus improving the picture performance of existing DVD libraries.
– output capacity of 24 frames per second.
–supports AVC-HD discs encoded with xvYCC technology, a new international standard for wide color space.
– incorporates BRAVIA™ Theater Sync utilizing HDMI connectivity.
– multi-channel linear PCM digital audio output via HDMI, and can decoding ability for Dolby® Digital Plus.
– optical and coaxial digital audio out, along with 5.1 channel decoding capability for backward compatibility with existing receivers.
– supports BD-ROM, BD-Java, AVC-HD and DVD playback from DVD/DVD+R/+RW encoded discs, CD playback, as well as MP3 audio files and JPEG images stored on DVD recordable media.
