face recognition patent
Cellphones are steadily progressing to become independent of touch, embedding the latest from the technical world for the requisite interaction. Just yesterday we came across a Nokia patent filed for a light messaging technology, and today we find Sony Ericsson filing a patent for a system to control cellphones via facial expressions, and music tracks by mere visual mood analysis.

The patented system that’s dubbed as the “Generating music playlist based on facial expression” works with the camera capturing an image of the user, recognizing it, and then developing a song playlist on the Smartphone corresponding to the user’s mood.

The technology will also work on similar concepts of the already existing SenseMe application on Ericsson phones – wherein the brief video of the user would be gathered in different frames of his facial expressions depicting various moods and then the phone would compare them with the characteristics of the songs stored in it to complete the application. So, it goes without guessing that if the patent is cleared and Sony Ericsson can pull it off, then our phones are going to know which song we want to hear, with only the grin or groom on our face.
