Sony develops organic TFT driven 4.1

We’ve seen a few curved and rollable displays here, now Sony’s developed an all new enticing display which gives us a glimpse of the future of such displays. This is a super-flexible 80 μm-thick, 4.1-in wide organic thin-film transistors OTFT, driven OLED display, which can be wrapped around a thin cylinder. Sony developed OTFTs with an original organic semiconductor material to create this display that integrates OTFT and OLED technology on an ultra-thin 20 μm thick flexible substrate, which is free of the conventional rigid driver IC chips that interfere in roll-up of a display. The 432 x 240 pixel display can be rolled up around a cylinder with a radius of 4mm to emit a brightness of 1000:1. Sony will unveil the display on May 27 at SID, Society for Information Display, 2010. Head down for a video representation in the mean time.
