Enfucell is a Finland-based company and it is in news for a paper thin flexible low power battery. SoftBattery is 0.3 to 1 mm thin and can produce max current of 4mA/cm2 and works on 1.5V or 3.0V.
Enfucell states that it was established after a decade of research on power sources for low-power applications in 2002. These researches were conducted at Automation Laboratory of the Helsinki University of Technology.
SoftBattery is their major product and is made of low-cost environment friendly materials which make it landfill safe. SoftBattery can even work when it is slightly bent and can operate under wide range of temperature (-25˚C to +60˚C). In addition to this it is also moisture resistant and turns out to be durable thin battery.
It has major applications in products which require small current like cosmetics, logistics and paper industries. Company has already developed cosmetic patches for proper diffusion of pharmaceutical drugs. Integration of SoftBattery with RFID tags is under pipeline and plans to replace button cells used in paper industry.
Enfucell was tagged as Technology Pioneers 2007 by The World Economic Forum for the development of SoftBattery which is predicted to have major impact on future gadgets and low-power driven applications.
