Snow-roving robots to reveal deep secrets of Antarctica
Scientists of Georgia Tech have come up with Snomote - a two foot small, fast and agile robot to explore the deep secrets of the unknown Antarctica, especially the areas far away from coastlines. Snomotes will explore Antarctica in number of dozens collecting the data terestrially, that has been so far collected only through aerial transducers in the form of artificial satellites. It's ironical to see scientists taking so long to create remote controlled terrestrial explorers when compared to outer space expeditions. In South Pole expedition Snomotes would encounter threats such as nasty weathers, slippery terrains and cracking and shifting ice sheets. Ayanna Howard, an associate professor at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, has claimed Snomotes can successfully overcome these threats.
