Sniff your favorite perfume through an odor-generating TV

Have you ever thought about a scenario where you could smell the aroma of the coffee or probably sniff your favorite perfume shown in the advertisement? Well, due to the fast development in the field of technology, researchers from the University of California in association with (SAIT) Samsung advanced institute of technology in Korea have made it possible to generate odor through the television.

As a result of a 2-year experiment done by the researchers, a compact device that can be easily fitted at the back of your TV has been created which is capable of producing thousands of odors from a TV or cell phone. Let's say for example, if your favorite actor is eating a pizza, you can not only view the same but also smell the pizza. The tool has been tested using the two famous commercially available cologne's. And, as expected, a human tester was able to identify the perfumes within the range of 30 cm.

The concept behind this breakthrough technology is that the scent will come from an aqueous solution like ammonia kept inside a silicone elastomer, which will generate odor when electric current will be passed through thin metal wire. Due to the heat and the pressure, a tiny hole in the elastomer will open up while releasing the odor. Though the researchers have demonstrated that such a device is certainly possible, the question mark still remains that if audiences would respond to such an idea?

This vision can be really profitable for the advertisers as for example, the viewer could sample the perfume by simply sniffing the same on the television or the aroma of a new coffee introduced by your preferred cafe could make you drop by. But will there be an option to block certain odors? No matter what, due the demonstration of this unnamed device, we can be assured that scientists are responsibly trying to invent solutions to our ever changing mechanical needs.
