The smartphone has proved highly beneficial for the infantry division as the soldiers are using their smartphones to text messages and update concerned people about information like weather condition, the surrounding areas and their maps, GPS location, and about filling up other administrative information and reports.

Various kinds of phones like window phone units, Android phones, and iPhones, and they are about to connect other companies like Apple, Dell, and Hewlett Packard. Basically the company is aiming at creating an array of devices for the fulfillment of massive need of the US army. During the field testing phase, few instruments were not so good also due to one or other reason like failure in connecting to cellular network or having bugs in the instrument and so the company, Samsung, changed them with other handset.

iPhone and Android models worked well and ran smoothly even in far flung desert areas but in desert pockets iPhone could not work well because of lack of service towers. The army is also planning to develop a makeshift gear which will help in deploying a makeshift network for the cells. There are a few obstacles in the way of army before the phones go public to combat troops. The problem is that phones software and transmissions are not fully secured but it is hoped that the army will get over this hurdle very soon, as it has proved many times in past.
