Pricing and availability
Samsung has not yet revealed the price tag of Galaxy Note. But rumormongers have speculated that price of Note will be at around £495. Release date of the device is also not disclosed by the company that has been producing the world’s best Android products for a while.
What’s great
5.3-inch HD display: Galaxy Note features a large 5.3-inch HD Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 at 285 ppi. In screen size, it is one inch larger than Galaxy S II and 0.3-inch larger than Dell Streak, a mini Android tablet from Dell. The large display certainly makes Galaxy Note a big device, i.e. it will not fit in your pocket.
Better processor: You have 1.4GHz ARM-based dual core processor inside Galaxy Note. Galaxy S II indeed has a 1.2GHz processor and so Note offers better performance than Galaxy S II.
Superior camera: Like Galaxy S II, Galaxy Note highlights an 8-megapixel camera in the rear panel. It is the first big gadget to feature an 8-megpixel camera. 1080p video capture capability, LED flash, action shot and panorama shot are other notable features of Note. For video chatting, the device sports a 2-megpaixel camera in the front panel.
Android 2.3 Gingerbread: You have Android 2.3 Gingerbread on Galaxy Note. It is the most advanced version of Android a smartphone should have at this point of time. Of course, the next generation Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is in pipeline for release. Anyway, it is interesting that Note does not play on Android 3.2 Honeycomb, the special version of the software for tablets. So we can simply call Note a smartphone rather than a tablet.
Connectivity: Galaxy Note is to come up with full-fledged connectivity features. You have Bluetooth v 3.0 + HS, one USB 2.0 port, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n and Wi-Fi Direct on the smartphone.
What’s not so great
Being a device with a 5.3-inch display, Note is not portable enough. You won’t be able to carry the device in your pockets. However, it is an ideal product that you can keep in your backpack and use to solve many of your computing tasks. Another downside is that stylus of the device is highly losable. Galaxy Note comes with a digital pen that is a bit smaller and you may lose it somewhere unless better attention is given.
Verdict
Galaxy Note is, of course, a wonderful product. It should be a perfect choice for a person, who is not satisfied with the crammed display of a smartphone or with the large display of the original Galaxy Tab 7. Many customers can buy Galaxy Note in place of both a tablet and smartphone. With Android 2.3 Gingerbread, large Super AMOLED display and an 8-megapixel 1080p camera, Galaxy Note will be a shining product in market when it lands in stores across the world.
