Smart clothes measure heart rate, breathing and body temperature

Remote monitoring systems are the new way into self-health monitoring. While many such devices, some attached with clothing, have been made real, the involvement of different sensors and transmission devices makes the entire process cumbersome. To simplify and to make the system transparent for patients, European scientist are developing smart clothing that include sensors inside, and through a easy mobile system helps monitor a patients vitals and send information across to the caregivers.

The deployed sensors (with six-lead electrocardiograph) within the HealthWear system (a comfortable vest) collect the wearer’s heart rate, breathing, body temperature and blood oxygen as biosignals, and then send across this data through a GPRS-enabled mobile device to doctors and others concerned, allowing them to check up on the concerned patient.

If after correct clinical trials, the scientist can actually pull off a fabric with such abilities, then we are definitely talking of a healthcare system that is revolutionized and is contemporary enough to do away with the need of visiting hospitals too frequently, for patients suffering with chronic diseases.
