Small and inexpensive earthquake detection device on its way in Taiwan
Researchers in Taiwan, an earthquake prone region, have revealed a small and inexpensive device to detect earthquakes within 30 seconds. Earthquakes are the most life threatening natural calamity all around the globe. A device to sense quakes could be a great help, and this tape deck sized metal device to measure acceleration and speed of the earthquake, can therefore be used to warn people against an oncoming calamity of identified magnitude, thus saving lives.

Built with a mechanical chip, the device will cost about $302 and needs to be fixed in a place where it isn’t shaken by any force other than the earthquake itself. Knowing within fraction of seconds the magnitude of the quake, researchers from the National Taiwan University (developers of the device) believe, they will be able to tell the likely damage the earthquake can cause with the speed and magnitude provided by the device. The developers haven’t applied for a patent yet, but this distant yet genus technology could be real handy.
