With increase pressures at work and otherwise, we have been deprived of good quality sleep and are becoming insomniac. Because it isn’t easy for us to understand how good/bad we are sleeping, a Japan based manufacturer, Tanita (also active in US) has developed a mat-based system which measure the deepness and quality of your sleep. Dubbed he Sleep Scan, this sensor-embedded mat when placed under the mattress records the sleeping person’s body motion, breath rate and pulse throughout the night.

This information (or the sleep score as it is called) of the quality of your sleep is stored on the Sleep Scan’s 2GB SD or SDHC card which using a Tanita developed software can be reviewed in form of graphs etc. Measuring 863×314×26mm and weighing as little as 1.3kg the mat is good to save up to 500 sleep cycles that you can review upon. We aren’t sure when the Sleep Scan will sell outside the borders of Japan, but he Japanese will be able to monitor their sleep quality beginning this May when the mat will be sell for a retail price of $395.
