Skin bacteria is as good as fingerprints

Well, the thing that we leave our fingerprints on keyboards and mice when we type or click could be used to figure out our identities is nothing new to anyone of us. However, it’s not only the fingerprints but the bacteria from our skin also remain on the things we touch and could be used for the same purpose as fingerprints.

In a new study led by microbiologists Rob Knight and Noah Fierer of the University of Colorado, each of us carries a wealth of micro-organisms, and that microbial nation is distinctive – as distinctive as a fingerprint.

The trail of our own personal bacteria can stay on things we touch for days or even weeks at a room temperature if left untouched and these dislodged microbes could help identify an individual.

It sounds a promising technique, but there are uncertainties if microbial nations are static or change form over time. Once the thing about its form will be confirmed, it could play decisive role to find out and make criminals meet justice.
