Siemens has developed a connected video surveillance system, Sistore that can automatically detect and track the intruders via a connected series of video cameras.
The system uses an algorithm to track any suspicious movements and on detecting any it sounds an alarm in the security control center and begins detecting the suspect with other available cameras.
The system is aimed to reduce the strain on the security officers who have to keep on looking at multiple screens for a long period of time and studies have shown that a guard will miss nearly 95% of the scene within 22 minutes of surveying multiple screens at the same time.
The technology uses an algorithm to identify humans and use their shape and speed to detect any cars, animals or some other creature. The technology saves the background image as it is getting from the cameras and if the camera is moved the background image changes and the security system sounds an alarm in the security control center.
The system will be installed for the 2006 Asian Games in Doha and will employ 1300 cameras which will be linked together to keep the capital of Qatar safe during the games.
