Satellite radio provider Sirius has announced that the company will soon be releasing BackSeat TV service. The service will initially be released by Chrysler Group and subsequently be released by Jeep and Dodge.
BackSeat TV operates via an in-vehicle video receiver which has two roof mounted antennas. Programming can be displayed on the car’s second and/or third row of seats. For more flexibility, rear-seat passengers can enjoy videos while the front seat passengers can listen to satellite radio.
Three channels of children’s TV including Nickelodeon, Disney Channel and Cartoon Network will also be broadcasted.
When the car is in park, then the passengers of the first row of seats can also view videos broadcasted by the satellite video provider.
The system is priced at $470, when packaged with Chrysler Group’s rear seat entertainment system which includes one year service. After the first year, BackSeat TV is available for $7 per month in addition to $12,95 for the subscription radio service.
