This table certainly speaks of Matt Tovey’s geeky obsession. This is one of the best DIY projects I have ever come across. He has created a geeky computer desk with 434 discarded Itanium CPUs. These CPU modules were scrapped during a supercomputer upgrade, and were most probably functional before the heat sinks were taken off. Matt cited that that the list price for the lot of chips was over US $800,000 in 2006. Moreover, desk touts about 2.8 TFLOPs of computing power, which is about the same as 900 3.2GHz P4s. That’s tremendous! He used a plain desk, fixed in the CPUs and added wooden edging and a beveled glass top. Well, what if this geeky chip desk actually worked?
