Shweeb - A human-powered monorail

Posted By: Jaiyant Cavale | Jul 24 2008

Rising gas prices and environmental concerns have made it necessary to use alternate sources of energy and one of the more sustainable vehicle is the human powered vehicle. The Shweeb is a human powered monorail with high performance pedals. One to five monorails can be loaded on each track and it is still in the proof-of-concept stage. Designer Geoffrey Barnett has installed the vehicle at an adventure centre in New Zealand. The bikes run on low-resistance tracks and the pods are very aerodynamic and allow you to reach speeds of up to 45kmph. The pods can also swing out as much as 60 degrees on tight runs and you don't have the risk of crashing like on a bike or motorcycle. These human powered monorails are pollution free, economical, fast and clean. You do not even have to maneuver through the traffic jams. When a rider who is fast comes behind a slow rider, they cushion and work as a single unit. Besides being economical and green, they also keep you healthy. Shweeb is safe, silent and sustainable and takes very little airspace. A public transportation solution like this could provide solutions to the burgeoning urban traffic woes.
