Should we rely on fingerprint recognition devices?

If you consider fingerprint recognition devices as foolproof, the fact that these too fail to provide full security will certainly shock you. The fingerprint sensors are easily fooled coupling a digital camera with some of your kitchen appliances. Yes, this is true and Tsutomu Matsumoto, a Japanese cryptographer tricked fingerprint detectors through a fake gelatine finger.

Tsutomu further improved the fake fingerprint by emulating fingerprints from a glass onto copper sheet and creating an exact copy of it. The counterfeit finger deceived fingerprint recognition devices with 80 per cent success rate.

The whole process questions the authenticity of the so-called highly secure fingerprint biometric devices.
