No doubt, touch screens have refined all input technologies, but like all other gadgets and techniques it too needs a revamp. Sharp has stated that the company will make touch screens look a whole lot nicer in the coming years.
The manufacturer has also stated that it has developed and will soon mass produce touchscreen glass for LCD screen that could be used in computers and mobile devices and will also be half as thick as what is currently available. The technology will make use of optical sensors that will be built under each pixel of the panel. This eliminates the need to bond a film to it and so improving the screen’s resolution.
Till now we have seen touch screens that only have a clumsy resolution, but the advent of this technique might make these screens look better. Sharp has also stated that they have developed the ability to touch multiple points on the screen at the same time. Though, we have already seen this technique in some cellphones like the HTC Touch. The best feature in these high-end screens will be the ability to scan images.
Such scanning screens can be the next big thing in LCD technology, as an example, a business card could be placed on the screen of a cellphone and scanned in. The company is also expecting to integrate fingerprint scanning technique in these screens.
Going by the words of Sharp these screens will be available in all sizes up to 30.7 centimeters wide and expects mass production to begin in the spring of 2008.
