Sharp memory is just a pill away

For many years now, we have been fascinated by the idea of a memory pill that would help us memorize all that is necessary. Exam fever will not quite be a fever if you have a pill to swallow that helps you retain all that you studied. It seems that the fascination would soon become a reality, as a group of scientists from the University of California have succeeded in developing a pill that can help memory stick. This pill could also be a huge boost to the memory of the dementia-affected patients who find it difficult to retain anything at different times.

The scientists have drawn inspiration from the age-old theory of fatty foods possessing the virtue of retention. This team of researchers is keen on developing drugs that would replicate the memory-boosting effect of fatty foods for the brain.

The oleic acids found in fats are transformed into oleoylethanolamide in the small intestine. It is this oleoylethanolamide which triggers memory consolidation in the brain. It is now upto this group to replicate the effect with a pill, and if they succeed, this could well be the "magic pill" the world would want.
