Sharp develops 85-inch Super Hi-Vision TV

Gadget lovers – brace yourselves. Sharp Corporation, along with Japanese national TV broadcaster NHK, has developed the first of its kind LCD TV- an 85 inch TV which has a resolution of 7,680x4,320 pixels!

NHK has been working on next generation broadcasting specs since 1995. The result of years of hard work put in by their technical team resulted in the next generation television broadcast format – Super Hi–Vision, which has approximately 33 megapixels or about 16 times the resolution of the HDTV. These specs provide life-like image reproduction.

Sharp has extensive work experience in building high resolution television of huge screen size. This skill set - complemented with NHK's extensive expertise and know-how in Super Hi Vision - will enable television viewers to experience ultra-detailed viewing of events. The life-like images displayed by this technology in this huge screen will provide the viewers a real life like experience. The viewers will feel as if they are actually present in the location. This super huge television uses Sharps UV2A (Ultraviolet induced multi-domain Vertical Alignment) LCD technology.

This specially developed TV will be made available for common public at NHK’s Science & Technology Research Laboratories in Tokyo from 26th to 29th May 2011.

Even if this product is made available to common people, they will have to wait until broadcasters gear themselves up with the Super Hi Vision broadcasting capabilities. When this technology broadcasting happens, people will be able to see this resolution in action on a direct-view display.

NHK is expecting to start broadcast with the Super Hi Vision from 2020. Super-size gadget freaks will be able to enjoy incredible detailed images with the help of this product developed by Sharp. Sharp has not provided too many details as to when this product will be commercially made available to common people.
