Time is not so far, when doctors will treat their patients just checking their 3D facsimiles. The US scientists are working on a new robotic programme, the outcome of which will be futuristic shape-shifting robots who can take any shape, from a facsimile human to an animal to a cell phone. Seth Goldstein-led Carnegie Mellon University researchers are exploiting the new science of claytronics to create swarms of tiny robots. These robots are called catoms. The catoms use electromagnetic forces to cling together and produce 3D replica of humans or anything else. The replicas can be used for virtual meetings. The project is now four years old. The US Air Force Research Lab and Intel Corp are also part of the research work.
