Researchers at MIT have been successful in developing a plastic material that has three shapes and can change its shape according to the temperature at which the material is heated.

If you heat, a ring of the plastic material that at room temperature has a diameter of 4.5mm to a temperature of 40 degree Celsius the diameter will increase to 6.8 cm and on further heating, the ring may contract it to a measurement between the two diameters.
The plastic can be made into different shapes for all such purposes, which require a change in shape when the temperature rises. This material can have a good use in making medical devices and stents.
