Shade pixel: A paper fiscal display represents information
As the world goes digital, we evidently come across numerous digital technologies that intend to enrich our lifestyle. Art and technology often combine well for a creation defining digital ingenuity – and Shade Pixel, an innovative information display, is an extension to the same. Shade pixel developed by the Korean Media Design Lab, is a paper fiscal display which uses the deformable skin to represent information. The prototype is a 7- by 11-inch pixel screen, made up of two parts: a skeleton made up of matrix of 77 solenoids and a frame with 77 holes, and the frame is covered with a membrane spandex. The pixels works like a punch machine wherein the pixels on release of a set of magnetic coils are drawn back and forth in order to display the desired information. The pixels can be embedded into the surfaces of everyday appliances and furniture as an ambient display. In the future, we see various applications of this technology being explored for something even better – something with an organic touch for all physical displays maybe. You could check out the video for more on the Shade Pixel after the jump.
