Power is the pivot around which the technology revolves and has, in one way, restricted us from making the best use of it. The only way out is to somehow create battery-free environment; but how? Though we’ve successfully implemented RFID technology to the same effect, still we’re far away from incorporating it into various other fields of technology.

Researchers at Intel are planning to implement the technique to develop battery-free sensors to collect data continuously without any hassles of changing batteries. The latest sensors in the making will capture the required power from ‘environmental vibrations’, such as radio waves.

The Intel sensor devices run just on a ‘couple hundred microwatts of power to collect and process data’. The sensors utilize less power as they become activated only when they’re within the range of the designated RFID reader. The sensors can turn out to be a boon for medial science.
