Many efforts have been made in past to find a solution the may relieve us from carrying our PC’s and laptops. A NC concept was launched by by Sun Microsystems and Oracle that provided the users with online storage space so that they could store their important data at a central storage and access it on any remote location. The problem with this system was unavailability of ports and internet at certain locations.
Segate has come out with a brilliant solution for this problem they have designed a line of pocket storage devices with a storage capacity up to 750GB and has plans to launch them at CES next week. These storage devices called FreeAgent can be carried along conveniently due to their small size these drives can store photos, music files, videos, software applications, documents, e-mail, Internet links etc. they contain a drive and a software to manage and encrypt the files.
The device can be easily plugged in any computer and the file scan be accessed directly from it. It is completely safe to use this device any where as it leaves no data traces or password on remote computer. The biggest advantage of the device is that it does not require any internet connection to access it.
The devices will be available in February along with integrated software tools for managing data, customers will also get 500MB of space on a Seagate Internet storage site for posting photos or other files. The Internet service is free for six months. Prices range from $199 to $419.
