The 'Babybot' developed by scientists from Italy, France and Switzerland, behaves just like an infant and tries to understand and learn from the world around him. The Babybot, equipped with a pair of cameras, one-armed torso, and a hand to grasp objects, is designed with an 'in-built desire' to interact and experiment with things. The robot learns from its mistakes and is programmed not to repeat them, in case it fails to do a particular task in the first attempt.

Giorgio Metta, member of the 'Babybot' research team, said:
We started with knowledge from developmental psychologists and neuroscientists. What we're doing is the same as what neuroscientists do but from an engineering perspective.A perfect example of artificial intelligence, the Babybot's brain is controlled by a cluster of 20 computers and software that behaves similar to the human neural system.
