Scientists building an iPod-sized handheld HIV detector

Testing patients for HIV is almost impossible in underdeveloped countries, where fatality rate because of the disease has sky rocketed over time. The governments are trying to get the big laboratory machines to almost all health centers; still the process is far from true in all sense. Thus, to curb the problem of accessibility, researchers at California’s Palo Alto Research center have cramped the lab machine with all the tech into an iPod-sized handheld device that with only a prick in the finger would provide the needy with an immune check-up in under 10 minutes. This PARC’s prototype device priced at $250 has a long way to go before it is out there to actually help, but when it’s up there it will certainly revolutionize the detection and treatment of HIV, thus saving millions of life.
