Robotics, by now, is a normal and regular feature of scientific discovery and development. Any advancement on this front still excites us but mostly in obvious anticipation. But the research team of Zurich university's Artificial Intelligence Laboratory have come up with an innovative robot, named ECCEROBOT-2, that has indeed made some breaking news.

This robot comes with a big difference - a solid mass, flexible skeleton covered with artificial human-like muscles and tendons. The robot muscles emulate all human functions by virtue of an elastic cord powered by Maxon servo motors. The motors are adept at maintaining uniform elasticity and have the ability to work in contrasting direction of the natural pull. 80 DC motors control the actuators are responsible for the human-like movements and offer high torque even despite the limited space.
This creation is claimed to be a milestone achievement in the field of robotics till date and are likely to find extensive application in all research and development in the area of humanoid robots in future. Perhaps, we might have real human like robots, replete with human form, roaming around the earth in a few years' time. While it definitely looks a little creepy, it might as well become true given the pace at which robotic technology seems to be advancing. Via Azorobotics
