Samsung’s solar-powered NC215S notebook likely to hit US for $399

Samsung’s solar-powered notebook, Samsung NC215S, is also to appear in the U.S. stores next month, new reports suggest. The South Korean technology company had earlier launched its solar notebook in Africa and Russia. The eco-friendly notebook was initially released at the Africa Regional Forum in Nairobi, Kenya.

According to fresh reports, Samsung NC215CS will be up for U.S customers from July 3, 2011 onwards. The device will likely come up with a price tag of $399 in the country. Samsung is to sell the notebook for 13,999 rubles or almost $500 in Russia, where it may surface in August 2011.

The 10.1-inch Samsung NC215S sports solar panel in its lid. Hence many skeptics are concerned about its charging while in use. According to Samsung, the netbook will function one hour on a two-hour charging in sunlight. The fully-charged device will have a battery life of 14 hours thanks to its PowerPlus battery technology that allows 6-cell battery.

Under the hood, Samsung NC215S netbook highlights Intel Atom N570 or N455 processor and 1GB RAM. The 10.1-inch display offers a resolution of 1024×600. Integrated Intel graphics, Webcam, SD card slot, USB port with sleep-and-charge function and Ethernet jack are major features of the device. Asides the solar factor, the notebook is exactly an update of Samsung NC210 mini-laptop.
