Samsung's 2.2" active-matrix OLED display is thinner than a credit card
Samsung has developed a paper-thin panel which is the world's thinnest 2.2" display panel developed till date. The 2.2" active-matrix organic light-emitting diode (AM-OLED) display from Samsung is just 0.53 millimeters thick.

The company plans to use this ultra-thin panels in high-end mobile phones and mini video players. OLED panels are preferred over LCD screens because unlike the LCD screens, OLED panels do not need an additional light source, and hence they are slimmer and energy efficient.
The OLED system uses organic compounds which enable it to emit red, green and blue lights in response to electric signals, resulting in crispy, fast-responding images.
Samsung's new organic display is already being used by Korea's Reigncom and Japan's Kyosera, and the company plans to start mass production of this OLED display to meet the higher demands.
