Samsungs has updated its line of HDDs with the latest 2.5-inch Spinpoint M7 internal hard drive. The specialty of the hard drive is that it is a 640GB dual platter design, wherein each platter features 320GB space. Not actually made for rugged computers, the hard drive boasts a great shock proof ability i.e shock resistance levels of 400G (2ms) in operation mode and 900G (1ms) in power off mode.
The Spinpoint M7 offers a rotational speed of 5400rpm, 3.0Gbps SATA interface and 8MB cache in spite of stuffing itself with more data density in one platter, which is 28% more than what Samsung has tried before with 500GB drives. Slated to ship in US and Europe later this month, we hear the M7 hard drive could cost at about $150.
